KATHUA, Sept 17: Former Minister and senior BJP leader, Rajiv Jasrotia has demanded that District Administration must rehabilitate the families at suitable place, if it intends to shift them from Old Basantpur Canal site.
Talking to media persons here today, Ex-MLA Kathua criticized District Administration and alleged that with the issuance of notices to some families, a panic is being created among people of the area. He said that Administration should avoid such tactics of harassing those families who have piece of State land on old Basantpur Canal site and living their since long.
Jasrotia, who was accompanied by Municipal Councilors of Kathua and Lakhanpur said that Administration issued notices to number of families to vacate the Basantpur Canal land within few days, otherwise, legal action will taken against the non- compliance of order. He alleged that such families have constructed their houses on Basantpur Canal land more than 25 years earlier. On the other hands Govt has also constructed number of buildings on the Canal land, which do not exist at present.
Ex-MLA further said that if Govt wants to take this land, firstly, it should rehabilitate the people on other land. He said that the poor people having no other shelter are under terror and passing sleepless nights. He said it Govt wants to retrieve land for water body, then Administration need to dismantle the Govt structures raised on the land. He said that such action of Administration creating panic and insecurity among the common masses. Jasrotia said for any law and order situation, the District Administration will be responsible.
He has appealed the Governor to take the matter in consideration and do justice with poor people. He has also assured the affected people to collectively fight for justice.
Councilors Randhir Singh, Ravinder Pathania, Anil Kumar, Rakesh Kumar and Ajay Kumar were also present on the occasion.
