JAMMU, Apr 3: The displaced persons from Pak occupied Jammu and Kashmir including Mirpur, Bhimber, Kotli, Bagh, Plandri, Muzaffrabad, Deva Batala and Chhamb today held protest demonstration followed by dharna near Press Club here today.
Under the banner of POK DPs’ Front Jammu and Kashmir- 1947, 65, 71 a large number of refugees under the leadership of Capt Yudhvir Singh Chib assembled at Exhibition Ground near Press Club in the morning and held protest demonstration in support of their pending demands. They were demanding one- time comprehensive settlement of refugee families.
Capt Chib while addressing gathering said that after long struggle J&K Government prepared a proposed package of Rs 25 lakh for the settlement of each family of the displaced persons. The Chief Minister and his party cabinet colleagues have refused to give green nod to the package and sign the file. He alleged that Kashmir centric regional parties would never allow the settlement of the refugees/ DPs issues. Capt Chib said that Congress-NC Coalition Government has failed to provide them justice and these parties have only exploited the DPs.
The refugee leader also expressed his resentment against refugee candidate, Labba Ram Gandhi, who meekly surrendered and withdrawn himself from the contest as Jammu-Poonch Lok Sabha candidate (Ind) in support of BJP this afternoon. He said during five year term of Vajpayee (NDA) Government, no justice was done with the DPs and how that party can be trusted again when own community leader has betrayed the refugees, who had reposed faith in him. The community will not spare such leaders who played with their sentiments, he added.
