JAMMU June 5: Director Handloom Rajesh Sharma today reviewed the functioning of the department and implementation of various welfare schemes at a meeting of senior functionaries.
He was apprised about the achievements and progress made by the department under various schemes and welfare programmes like Integrated Handloom Development Scheme, Weavers Credit Card Scheme, Marketing and Export Promotion Scheme etc.
Mr Sharma asked the officers to come up with innovative ideas to promote handloom sector in the State, adding that this industry has a tremendous potential and has to be optimally tapped with a well conceived plan and dedicated efforts.
He asked for putting in strenuous efforts to implement the welfare schemes for the weavers. He said that Handloom sector is a major contributor in employment generation in rural areas and every effort should be made to implement the centrally sponsored schemes for the socio economic uplift of rural masses.
The Director stressed that focus should be on upgradation of infrastructure and skill development and better marketing of the product so that weavers get better returns for their products.
Mr. Sharma asked Deputy Director Handloom to take adequate steps to redress the problems of the weavers regarding the Weavers Credit Card Scheme and other welfare programmes. He also directed the concerned officers to conduct fortnightly review of the work done to ensure that set targets are fully achieved.
