Deputation calls on Com Secy Social Welfare Deptt

JAMMU, June 17: The Commission Secretary Social Welfare Department held a meeting with office bearers of Association for Welfare of Senior Citizen at Civil Secretariat, here today.
During the meeting Director Social Welfare Jammu was also present in which the office bearers of the Association submitted a memorandum pertaining to their issues before the Commission Secretary.
They put forth various issues including ‘Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act 2007’ has been made applicable to the UT by replacing the erstwhile State Act. The said Act envisages making of rules and appointment of specified authorities for carrying out the purposes of the Act.
It was pointed out that certain obligations on part of the Government of the UT as enshrined under sections 19, 20, 21, and 22 of the said Act need to be processed on priority.
They demanded that a detailed plan for the development of ‘Pay and Stay Homes, Day Care Homes and “Old Age Homes’ to be implemented in a phased manner and lay down comprehensive action plan for providing protection of life to senior citizens as well as medical support.
They also demanded speedy action on handing over eight kanals of State land allocated for setting up of a “Pay and Stay Home” at Dhami (Nagrota) and a small piece of land within Jammu city by JDA/JMC/Housing Board for establishing office-cum recreation spot for the Association and opening for more ‘Centre for Dignity’ at district level.
AK Arora, JS Sudan, Virender Kumar Gupta, Kewal Mahajan, Subash Sharma and Virender Suri were part of the deputation.
