Defence Panel to visit on May 30

JAMMU, May 27: A high-level Parliamentary Committee on Defence headed by its chairman would be visiting Udhampur- based headquarters of the Northern Command on May 30.
The Committee of 11-member Parliamentarians headed by its Chairman Maj Gen B C Khanduri (Retd), Member of Parliament, would discuss several key Defence related issues, official sources said.
“The team would have briefing on the revamping of the training of the Defence personnel and would also take stock of the state of the defence preparedness,” they said.
The Parliamentary committee would also take stock of the situation of the border roads particularly about the situations of the roads along the Actual Line of Control with China.
“The team will also take stock of the major research and development work undertaken by the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) and various other PSU’s working under the Defence sector,” said the sources.
After interacting with the top Army officers at the Northern Command Headquarters, including the Chief of the Northern Command Lt Gen D S Hooda, the team would also visit Hyderabad, Cochin and Bangalore, sources said.
