Seeks rehab of flood-hit people

JAMMU, Aug 2: District Development Council (DDC) Kishtwar Chairperson Puja Thakur today started four-day tour of flood-ravaged Honzar village in Kishtwar district where seven persons were killed in cloudburst while 19 others are still missing.
Thakur spoke on telephone to Union Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dr Jitendra Singh and Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on the plight of people and families of the victims.
She said the Union Minister and the Lieutenant Governor have given full assurances on rehabilitation of the villagers and tracing the missing people.
The DDC Chairperson demanded that Rs 5 lakh relief for next of kin of dead announced by the Jammu and Kashmir Government should be enhanced to Rs 10 lakh and Rs 50,000 for the injured should be raised to Rs two lakh so that the injured people can get medical facilities.
Thakur said entire Honzar village has been rendered unsafe and the people should be rehabilitated to safer areas.
