JAMMU, Feb 12: A deputation of Deaf and Dumb Association (DDA) of J&K today met Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly and MLA Gandhi Nagar, Kavinder Gupta, at his official residence here.
The deputation comprising president of the association, Vinod Kumar, vice-president, Krishan Kumar Kesar and general secretary, Bushan Kesar along with his team apprised the Speaker about the problems being faced by the deaf and dumb persons.
Vinod Kumar said that despite his rigorous and continuous efforts in getting justice for these people, no step has been taken till date in this regard and the number of cases coming forward with each passing day is a worrying factor and particularly in Jammu region due to the non-existent of any specialized treatment centre in this part of the State.
Kavinder Gupta gave a patient hearing to the deputation and said that it is very unfortunate on the part of previous Government that nothing has been done for the welfare of hearing impaired persons whereas the science has made a remarkable progress and almost everything is curable in this ever progressing era of science and technology.
He said that the primary thing which added to the miseries of these people is the lack of political will of the previous NC-Congress Government, who was not able to open even one speech therapy unit in Jammu region which shows their biased attitude between regions.
He assured the deputation that he will take up the matter at the appropriate level and if need arises will talk to the Union Health Minister for the opening of specialized speech therapy centre in the State and particularly in Jammu region.
