UDHAMPUR, Mar 15: District Congress Committee Udhampur today passed a resolution urging AICC president Rahul Gandhi to nominate either Ghulam Nabi Azad or Dr Karan Singh as the party candidate from Udhampur-Doda Parliamentary seat.
The resolution was unanimously passed during a meeting, chaired by the District president Krishan Chander Bhagat and attended by all the 14 Block Congress Committee presidents.
All the participants were of the opinion that only Ghulam Nabi Azad and Dr Karan Singh are the two heavyweight candidates, who can win the Parliamentary election from Udhampur-Doda constituency.
The block presidents, who were present in the meeting, included Om Parkash (Majalta), Shri Raj (Udhampur), Rasaal Singh (Panchari), des raj (Ghordi), Suram Chand ( Jagano), Mushtaq Ahmed ( Basantgarh), Neeraj Thapa (Chenani), Mohd Abbas (Latti), Raju ( Ramnagar), Chuni Lal (Seuna), Vijay Kumar (Barmeen-Chanoonta), Manjeet Kumar (Narsoo), Govind Ram (Khoon) and Hans raj Thakur ( Moungri).
The resolution, which was faxed to Rahul Gandhi urging him to consider the request, is a clear sign of factionalism within the party as only a few days back, the Working president of District Congress Committee Udhampur, Ashwani Khajuria had organized a party convention wherein Vikramaditya Singh was projected as Congress candidate for Udhampur-Doda seat.
