KATHUA, Mar 7: Former Minister and president DCC Kathua, Dr Manohar Lal Sharma while protesting against rising prices of petrol, diesel and LPG at Dhanni Panchayat here today stated that the steep increase in fuel prices is unprecedented and inhumane.
“Central government is exploiting common people by a continuous increase in excise taxes and this is a matter of great shame that the Central government is extracting Rs 32.98 and Rs 31.93 of excise taxes on every liter of petrol and diesel respectively,” he said adding that common people are badly hit by inflation.
Sharma said, despite low prices of crude oil in international market, petrol and diesel prices were hiked on Monday for the seventh day in a row.
“The cooking gas cylinder prices have increased by Rs 75 within 14 days. It is a pity for Modi government that a new record is being set in the prices of petrol and diesel,” he maintained.
“We demand that the increased prices should be withdrawn with immediate effect and the increase in excise duty should be rolled back to provide relief to the masses suffering from inflation,” the Congress leader said.
Brijeshwar Singh, Devinder Singh Bindu, Radha Rani, Rajinder Takur, Kuldeep Singh, Sat Paul, Kulbushan Singh, Surinder Singh, Rashpaul Singh and others were also present in the protest.
