MENDHAR, Jan 16: Dy Commissioner Poonch, Sajjad Ahmed today ordered an inquiry after a woman delivered a baby on the road side after she was referred to Rajouri hospital from Sub District Hospital Mendhar, merely on the negligence of local doctors today.
The incident evoked strong protest by the family members and relatives of the hapless woman, who was referred to District Hospital Rajouri by the local doctors on the plea that case was premature. The woman who was writhing with labour pains was referred to Rajouri and she delivered baby within 20 minutes of departure, on the road side on the outskirts of Mendhar town while moving towards Rajouri in an ambulance.
The ladies and family members had to stop the ambulance on the road and by providing a cover of blankets and other cloths by the ladies accompanying, the woman delivered female baby on the road side. The woman and the new born were then brought back to Mendhar hospital where relatives and other people also gathered. They lodged strong protest against the Hospital authorities and raised slogans demanding action against the doctors.
They alleged that a lady doctor on duty examined the patient – Nagina Kouser, wife of Mohd Muneer, resident of Gohlad at around 12.25 pm. The lady was then referred to Rajouri despite request by the family members that condition of patient was not good. A relative Shakeel Ahmed said that they provided ambulance and the patient was forced to leave for Rajouri but she delivered baby within 20 minutes on the road side due to sheer negligence on the part of doctors.
The relatives and locals then moved to the office of SDM Mendhar for seeking action but he was not available and then the matter was taken up with the DC Poonch. The DC Poonch when contacted said that he has ordered an inquiry into the matter. It is unfortunate incident and appeared to be lapse on the part of concerned staff. The action will be taken in this regard, he added.
CMO Poonch, claimed that there was shortage of doctors in the hospital and no gyneocologist or surgeon was available. The four posts of Assistant Registrars were also lying vacant. The CMO claimed that he would hold departmental inquiry into the matter.
