DC finalizes arrangements for Eid-ul-Azha

JAMMU, Sept 14: Deputy Commissioner Jammu, Simrandeep Singh today asked the market regulating authorities to notify and strictly enforce the rates for mutton and chicken, live and retail ahead of Eid-ul- Azah.
“There shall be no complaint from the public about overcharging by the traders on account of sale of sheep and goat for sacrifice or retail. The empowered committee, in consultation with all stakeholders should finalize the rates and widely notify these for the information of the public”, the DC asked the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution Department (CA&PD), while chairing a meeting held to finalize the arrangements for upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
The meeting was attended by senior functionaries of district administration, Consumer Affairs Department and Public Distribution Department (CA&PD), PHE, Power Development, Animal and Sheep Husbandry, Jammu Municipal Corporation, Fire and Emergency services department, Auqaf, representatives of Muslim Federation, civil society members,   consumer forum activists, mutton and chicken sellers .
It was also decided that the Animal and Sheep Husbandry Department would also make available chicken, sheep and goat for sale as per the past practice.
The DC asked the concerned departments to make available sufficient number of poultry, sheep and goat for the convenience of the public.
He directed for intensive checking of quality and rates of mutton and chicken in the market. “The enforcement agencies will take care that the mutton and chicken sellers maintain hygienic conditions in the shops and sale points and do not overcharge from the customers”, he said. He also called for regular market inspection to keep check on hoarding and profiteering during the festival days.
The meeting also finalized the arrangements for facilities like drinking water, medical care and sanitation at the Eidgahs, major mosques and places where people gather in large numbers to celebrate Eid.
The DC also asked for making available mobile water tankers at such places as a backup to the spot water storage facilities.
The Auqaf Islamia has started the face lifting and cleanliness of Eidgahs, while the JMC was also told to activate men and machinery to start cleanliness around mosques and areas where Eid Congregations are held.
