DC B’pora ‘abuses’ medico in Hajin, invites ridicule

Srinagar, Apr 9: Amid Coronavirus scare across J&K, the doctors in Hajin block are aghast and have expressed their anguish over the alleged misbehavior of Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora with a senior colleague of theirs.
The doctors alleged that during a telephonic conversation of their colleague with the official, he was abused resulting in resentment among the doctors.
The doctor alleged that a senior colleague was abused by the officials over the issue after a few people were released from the quarantine in the district.
“There was an administrative issue over which the official abused senior colleague. He had released few people after completing the quarantine. However, he (DC) was insisting that they were not to be released,” a doctor told Excelsior.

After the incident, the doctors in the Hajin block have decided to go on a strike and stop all routine works except for the COVID-19 emergency cases.
“Yes, we have decided to go for a strike and will stop all the non-COVID works; we don’t want people to suffer,” the doctors said.
Deputy Commissioner, Bandipora, Shahbaz Mirza told Excelsior that the matter has been resolved, and those who were left from the quarantine have been brought back by the concerned. “I had said that, all because of extraordinary situation that we are facing here; the issue has been taken care of, all resolved,” he said.
Meanwhile, the incident has resulted in the resentment and the doctors across J&K demanding an apology from the official for his behaviour.
Doctors Association Kashmir condemned incident, terming it “inhuman”.
Its President, Dr Suhail Naik said that they would not tolerate such incidents and can go to any extent for the safety and honour of their colleagues.
“This is time to relieve all those officers who are patients of power arrogance and are threat to stability of nation,” he said.
Society of Dental Surgeons J&K (SDSJK) while condemning the incident said that the official should either apologise or step down.
President SDSJK Dr Imtyaz Banday said that during the current COVID crisis when the whole world is appreciating the role of health care workers, “DC Bandipora has come out as strong exception.”
He said that SDSJK demands that he should step down or seek apology immediately for the unparliamentarian behaviour.
The Jammu and Kashmir Society of Consultant Doctors (JKSCD) has unequivocally denounced the “authoritarian attitude and misbehavior” of DC Bandipora towards doctors working in the district.
JKSCD has demanded immediate suspension of the DC and a high level inquiry into his behaviour.
Meanwhile, late in the evening, doctors and the medical staff Hajin following the intervention by Sub District Magistrate (SDM) Sumbal, resumed their duties.
