JAMMU, Feb 1: In a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Advocate Shivan Mahajan against child abuse, Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice N Paul Vasanthakumar and Justice Tashi Rabstan today issued directives to the Social Welfare Department and State Police.
After hearing Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi with Advocate Summit Nayyar for the PIL whereas Deputy AG Vishal Bharti appearing for the State, the DB observed, “counsels appearing for the respondents submit that three former judges of this court were addressed communication dated 23.01.2017 seeking their willingness to head the committee in terms of Jammu & Kashmir Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Rules 2014 but their response is awaited”.
“The senior counsel appearing for the petitioner submits that District Child Welfare Committees have not been constituted”, the DB further observed while granting 10 days time to counsel for the Social Welfare Department to report regarding constitution of the District Child Welfare Committees as well as constitution of the Selection-cum-Oversight Committee.
“The Senior Advocate Sunil Sethi further submits that children are begging and nothing has been done by the authorities particularly Social Welfare Department as such Social Welfare Department is directed to address communication to State Police head to take action”, the DB said, adding “this shall also be complied with within ten days”.
