SRINAGAR, Feb 1: Doctors Association Kashmir (DAK) today called for emergency dialing system for medical assistance which it said will help in saving lives.
The DAK president, Dr Nisar-ul-Hassan said a reliable communication system makes all the difference between saving a life and experiencing ultimate loss. “Emergency calling system will reduce time to treatment as it is the time which can be a difference between life and death in an emergency patient,” he said.
This system which is in practice in other parts has reduced the mortality and morbidity in emergency patients and has significantly improved patient outcomes, said the DAK president.
Dr Hassan said the emergency medical team will provide as much of medical care as possible while en-route besides alerting the hospital before the arrival of ambulance giving staff time to prepare which can get a patient to treatment faster.
The DAK president said that many people die or are disabled from heart attack, stroke and trauma because they do not get life saving treatment in time.
“Heart attacks are not treated with primary PCI, the most effective treatment for them and ischemic strokes do not receive the most beneficial treatment which is thombolysis. The trauma patients die as they are not moved rapidly from the scene of injury to a health-care facility. We have helicopter services for sightseeing but no system in place to save lives and it seems that the value of life has been lost in healthcare planning,” Dr Hassan added.
