Srinagar, Nov 30: Dozens of dailywagers working in Tourism Department today protested at Gulmarg in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district and demanded regularisation of their services.
The temporary employees, who are 42 in number, said they are working in the Department since 2002 on meager salary of Rs 3500. “In all these years we were promised repeatedly that we will be regularised. Just three months ago, Commissioner Tourism Farooq Shah said our issue would be sorted out in a week’s time but nothing was done. All promises turned out to be fake,” said Mushtaq Ahmad, one of the protesters.
“We are working 24 hours in Gulmarg. It is we who manage all things related to winter sports in Gulmarg. Our job is hectic but we are paid peanuts and that too after the gap of several months,” the protesters said.
The temporary employees were protesting outside the office of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Gulmarg Development Authority. Due to their protest, the routine work remained suspended in the office today.
