LEH, Sept 23: The routine work in 32 departments of UT Ladakh has badly affected following the protest by daily wagers in Leh and Kargil.

Demanding regularization and two year service extension, thousands of daily wagers employees of UT Ladakh sat on protest from 17th September.
The casual labourers under the banner of All Ladakh Daily Wagers Union of UT Ladakh have been working on meager amount of monthly salary of Rs 6500.
Union President Phunchok Angchuk said that nearly 70 per cent work in various departments is managed by daily wagers however Government failed to make them permanent employee till date. He expressed anguish over not allowing them to meet the Lieutenant Governor to raise their issue.
He added that they have been working on meager amount of Rs 250 per day with a hope that someday they would get permanent job but unfortunately number of their employees got retired from job without any benefits.
UT Ladakh GAD Commissioner Secretary Ajit Kumar Sahu refused to respond to media query.
Apex Body in a press statement said that daily wagers issue is genuine demand which UT Administration must fulfill at earliest. Apex Body member Chering Dorje Lakrook said that Apex body members ready to come out on street if required in support of agitating casual labourers. He also added that Government shouldn’t engage any other workers in place of protesting casual labour.
Hill Council Chairman Advocate Tashi Gyalson and Deputy Commissioner Leh Shrikant Bala Saheb Suse met the agitating daily wagers at protesting site and urged them to call of their strike.
Hill Council Chairman Advocate Tashi Gyalson said that their demand is genuine and they are working on less than minimum wages. He also informs that UT Administration had put up their case before MHA which might take some time and in the meantime Government should pay them minimum wages as per Central Government Rules.
