SRINAGAR, Dec 24: Central University of Kashmir (CUK) Registrar, Prof Muhammad Afzal Zargar, today said the involvement of masses in decision making was imperative for good governance in the country.
“The people should be made part of the decision making and the Government functionaries should receive feedback from the society regarding the programmes and schemes launched and on the matters concerning the citizens,” Prof Zargar said while inaugurating the “Good Governance Day Celebrations” organized by the Directorate of Students Welfare (DSW) at Sonwar Transit campus of the University here.
The DSW had organized a Seminar and Oratory competition on “Role of Innovation and Technology in Promoting Good Governance” on the eve of the birthday of Atal Behari Vajpayee, former Prime Minister of India.
He said the use of Information Technology, particularly the social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, have the capacity to promote the good governance.
Dean School of Languages, Prof Muhammad Aslam, Head Department of Tourism Studies, Prof S Fayyaz, Coordinator Department of IT, Prof A M Wani, Department of Convergent Journalism, Coordinator, Asif Khan, Controller of Examinations/ I/c Finance Officer, Dr Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, DSW Officer, Dr Fayaz A Nikka, Department of Management Studies, Associate Professor, Dr Farooq Ahmad and other faculty, administrative staff and students were present on the occasion.
Dean School of Languages, Prof Muhammad Aslam said that innovations in teaching and learning will play a greater role in the development of professional and personal skills of individuals.
Saba Maqbool of the Department of Economics bagged the first prize while as Sharoz Khan of the Department of Management Studies and Riffat Mohi-ud-Din of the Department of Convergent journalism bagged the second and third prize respectively in the Oratory competition.
