JAMMU, Aug 19: A Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan today allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle in Nagrota area.
As per police sources, at around 8:30 am, Mushtaq Ahmed, son of Chandi of Rajouri, a jawan of 86 Battalion of CRPF, shot himself from his service rifle during his duty at CRPF Group Centre Nagrota.
After getting information, police team headed by SDPO Nagrota Bharat Bhushan Sharma rushed to the spot and shifted the body to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) for postmortem.
SDPO Nagrota called the FSL team and directed it to collect the fingerprints of the dead official and his service weapon.
Later, the body of the jawan was handed over to family member for last rites after completing legal and medical formalities.
Nagrota police has started inquest proceedings under Section 174 CrPC in this regard.
When contacted, SDPO Nagrota, Bharat Bhushan Sharma, told the Excelsior that “We are working on all leads and have collected the evidence from the spot”.
“It is a case of suicide or someone has shot him dead could not be ascertained yet as investigation is going on”, he added.
