JAMMU, Dec 4: All J&K Contingent Paid Education Employees’ Union (CPEEU) today demanded implementation of Minimum Wages Act.
Scores of contingent paid employees of Education department today assembled outside Press Club Jammu and staged a protest against the discrimination meted to them by the successive Governments in the State.
“We have been working for last more than 20 years as Sweepers, Night Chokidaars, Orderlies, etc on petty wages of Rs 200 per year, which we are drawing or local funds. Many among us have even donated their land to the department but the department did not think about us”, the protesting employees said.
They said that the department passed an order under SRO 308 in year 2011 vide No:- Edu-1/227/2009 dated 28-08-2011 giving some relief to our fraternity. “Under privilege of SRO 308, we were directly recruited to Class 4th posts against the 50% available posts in the department but unfortunately the benefit of the SRO was just like the lottery won by one among hundreds and many among our group have died just in the wait of the said lottery,” they added.
The protesting employees said that their own department compelled them to knock the doors of High Court vide SWP 2253/2015 but the directions of the Court were ignored by the department and their genuine wages are still pending with the department.
They appealed Governor SP Malik to take serious concern of their long pending demands like regularization of their jobs, release of pending dues and implementation of Minimum Wages Act and take immediate steps to redress them.
