Court directs SIT to fast track probe, file latest status report

JAMMU, Jan 24: In a case pertaining to missing of court file, Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu Amarjeet Singh Langeh has directed Special Investigating Team (SIT) to fast track the investigation and file latest report by or before next date of hearing.
The court had earlier directed the Senior Superintendent of Police, Jammu to register FIR regarding mis-placement of File No. 66/civil titled “Faquir Chand Vs. Karpal Singh” from record room. Accordingly, FIR No. 187/2014 was registered with Police Station Pacca Danga for offence under Section 409 of RPC.
“The record shows that a Special Investigating Team was constituted to investigate FIR in question which is headed by SDPO City (North), Jammu with SHO Police Station Pacca Danga, Incharge Police Post Panjtirthi and reader of SDPO as its members”, the CJM said, adding “vide report dated 18.10.2021 submitted by Sub-Divisional Police Officer, City, North- Jammu, it was conveyed that Special Investigating Team obtained a list of two officials who were deployed in the record room during period in question whose statements were also recorded under Section 161 of CrPC”.
During investigation, it was stated to have been revealed that file in question was sent to the office of Principal Sessions Judge, Jammu on 24.01.2007 in connection with some enquiry. It was also mentioned in the report that the then AO and SO administration are required to be questioned in connection with the whereabouts of the file.
“Nothing is forthcoming in the status report as to what prevents Special Investigating Team from questioning the then AO and SO administration so as to un-fold the mystery and to reach to real culprits”, the CJM said.
