14 gamblers held, drug peddler booked under PSA

Srinagar, Jan 24: Police in Baramulla today said to have arrested 14 gamblers and seized stake money from their possession even as a notorious drug peddler was also slapped with the Public Safety Act (PSA).
Acting on specific information, police said, police parties from PS Kunzer and Police Station Pattan raided gambling sites at Takiya Batpora, Hardu Aboora, Hanjiwera Bala & Kripalpora Payeen following an input about gambling activities and apprehended 14 gamblers.
“Officers have seized stake money of Rs 36,440 and playing cards from the gamblers. They have been arrested and shifted to respective police stations where they remain in custody,” police said.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of the law have been registered in respective police stations and further investigation is in progress.
Also, a notorious drug peddler, Muzamil Majeed Bhat alias Hashim son of Abdul Majeed Bhat resident of Mohalla Mir Sahib Baramulla was detained under PSA for his active involvement in drug peddling activities in Baramulla Town.
“Several cases under NDPS Act stands already registered against him. He has been lodged at Central Jail Kot Bilwal Jammu under detention orders received from Divisional Commissioner Kashmir,” police said.
