JAMMU, Sept 30: Plus two contractual lecturers, who started chain hunger strike on September 27 under the leadership of State president, All J&K Plus Two Contractual lecturers Association, Arun Bakshi, to press for their demands, suspended the same in view of examination of students.
Addressing the protestors, Bakshi said that the Government has compelled them to adopt the path of agitation, as after repeated requests to the concerned authorities and various Government representatives including Chief Minister and other Cabinet Ministers, no heed was paid to their grievances. He said, “we don’t want to make students suffer due to our protest and that is the reason we have decided to suspend our strike, but we will soon be back with full strength to fight for our rights”.
Vice-president of the Association, Asif Bhat, said that the Government has been exploiting the youth, which is intolerable and against the statement of the Chief Minister that youth are the strength of the Government. The Government has been using the contractual lecturers like a lollypop, he added.
He strongly urged the Government to concede their main demands including regularization as per the civil services special provisions Act 2010, enhancement in salary vide order No 1661 of GAD as per contractual rules and continuation of services in the same school vide order No 1328 of GAD till further order, failing which he threatened to start afresh agitation with full vigour to get their demands fulfilled.
During their three-day chain hunger, a deputation of contractual lecturers apprised the Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, about their problems or demands, who assured it to take up their case with the Government but the deputation stressed to solve their above said demands during the period of their chain hunger strike. The deputation said if their demands were not fulfilled they would sit on fast unto death.
Youth Congress president Shahnawaz and Panthers party’s provincial general secretary, Shankar Singh also visited the spot and interacted with the protesting contractual lecturers. They assured them their full support at each and every step in their struggle.
