SRINAGAR, Mar 16: The temporary college lecturers today protested against the Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education department’s decision to recruit new applicants in their places, despite court orders issued in their favour.
The teachers gathered at Pratap Park Press Enclave in Srinagar, raising slogans in support of their demands. They said despite the clear direction from the Jammu and Kashmir high court and CAT, the Higher Education Department continues to recruit new applicants in colleges through a new advertisement, blatantly disregarding the three stays that have been placed on the advertisement due to three separate petitions. “We urge the Chief Justice to take action and ensure that their orders are implemented without further delay,” a protestor said.
The teachers argued that there has been Divisional disparity, as the court orders have been implemented in Jammu but not in Kashmir. “We want an end to this divisional disparity. We should be given first preferences in the colleges, and we have no issues with advertising the rest of the vacancies,” said another protester.
The protestors also appealed to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha, to intervene in the matter, alleging that officials were misleading the administration on the issue. “The officials who have access to the Raj Bhawan are misleading the Governor administration. We want the administration to personally look into the matter,” said the protesters.
