JAMMU, Apr 2: Under Graduate students of Boys Hostel, Government Medical College, tonight held a protest in front of the main gate of the college and blocked road demanding security for the hostel, as the dead body of an unknown construction worker was found hanging this morning in Block B of Under Graduate Boys Hostel.
According to the reports, in early morning hours, a dead body of an unknown person reportedly a construction worker was found hanging in Block B of Under Graduate Boys Hostel, GMC Jammu. As soon as the students of the hostel noticed the body, they informed the police, who reached the spot and shifted the body to mortuary room of GMC Jammu for identification and post mortem.
To register their protest against the incident, tonight at about 9 pm, the hostel students assembled in front of the main gate of GMC Jammu and held a strong protest demanding security for the hostel. Alleging that the victim labourer was first murdered and then hanged, they demanded that adequate security be put in place in hospital gate as well as premises.
The protesting students raised slogans against the college administration and warden of the hostel and blocked the busy road for about half an hour by burning rubber tyres, thereby disrupting vehicular traffic on both sides of the road.
On getting information, officers of the college administration including Principal, Zahid Geelani, Medical Superintendent, Dr Ravinder Ratanpal, as well as SHO Bakshi Nagar, Inspector Ashwani Kumar, reached the spot and pacified the protesting students by assuring of placing adequate police as well as private security for the hostel.
On the assurance of the college administration, the protesting students dispersed and cleared the road for vehicular traffic.
