RAJOURI, Sept 18: Congress workers today held strong protest demonstration at Abdullah bridge here and disrupted the movement of traffic for about half an hour.
The Congress activists led by DCC members and assisted by  Beopar Mandal  and some prominent citizens reached at the Abdullah bridge during the mid day and started protest demonstration. They were opposing the decision of present Administration to shift Medical College sanctioned by the then Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad for Rajouri, away from the town.
They alleged that some people in the administration in connivance with the sitting Minister from the area were trying to shift its location near Kotdhara, at a corner, about 15 kms away from district hospital and the Rajouri-Poonch highway. They said this Medical College was meant for Rajouri and Poonch districts and taking it away from the already decided site at old hospital in the town. They said there is nearly 90 kanals of land available including that of High School  and over Rs 20 lakh has already spent on it. Some vested interests in BJP and PDP now want to shift it to most unsuitable place for their own benefits.
They warned to intensify agitation if the decision was not  reviewed. They said the Medical College be located at a place which is mostly suitable to the people of Nowshera-Sunderbani and even to the people of Mendhar,  Surankote and Poonch as well. They also appealed the people from these places to join the agitation for the common cause.
Prominent among those who joined protest included Sushil Sharma, Lalit Mahajan, Bittu Shah ( president Beopar Mandal), Ch Bashir, Pushpinder Gupta, Bal Krishan, Manju Sharma and Mushtaq.
