SRINAGAR/JAMMU, Nov 19: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) today remembered former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 104th birth anniversary.
The party also termed the decision to revoke three farming laws as the historic victory of agitating farmers and Congress Party under the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.
JKPCC president Ghulam Ahmad Mir, who presided over the meeting of senior Party leaders and workers at Srinagar Party office paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister on her birth anniversary.
Addressing the function, Mir said the iron lady- Indira Gandhi shall always be remembered for her vision and leadership qualities, who was also credited for making the Nation as strong in respect of defence, economic, education and on various other fronts, while she remained committed to serve and empower all sections of people.
Gandhi’s valour and vision brought laurels to the Nation, she will always be remembered for her achievements and making the Nation self-reliant and powerful in every respect, Mir added and said the Nation would continue to remember Gandhi for her sacrifice’s services and achievements.
Those who paid floral tributes to Indira Gandhi included senior leaders Abdul Rashid Dar, Bashir Ahmad Magray, Surinder Singh Channi, Shameema Iqbal, Indu Pawar(Ex-MLA), Shameema Raina, Abdul Gani Khan, Fayaz Ahmad Mir, Mushtaq Khanday, Umer Jaan and others.
Senior leaders, G N Monga, Mohd Anwar Bhat, Manzoor Ahmed Ganaie, Mohd Amin Bhat, Zahid Hussain, Fayaz Ahmed Dar and others also paid rich tributes to Late Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary today.
In Jammu, the Congress party also paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary.
Former ministers Raman Bhalla, Yogesh Sawhney remembered the former PM for her contributions and achievements. They paid tributes to her statue at Indira Chowk in a simple ceremony organised by Councillor Ritu Choudhary. Later, they paid floral tributes to her at the Congress office in Shaheedi Chowk to celebrate her legacy. Calling her an exemplary leader, they recalled her contributions to the economy, foreign affairs, and nation building.
Born on 19 November, 1917, Indira Gandhi served as Prime Minister from 1966 to 1977 and then again from 1980 to 1984. She was the first and the only female PM India has seen and was often known as the ‘Iron Lady’.
Bhalla recalled Indira Gandhi as one of the most powerful and inspirational figures in Indian history, saying that the former PM played an important role in establishing India as a strong country. During her tenure as Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi took many decisions which changed the course of India’s history.
Prominent among those present on the occasion included Kanta Bhan, Balwan Singh, Rajnish Sharma, Swarn Singh, Sanjeev Panda, Shashi Sharma, Gajjan Singh, Karan Bhagat, Rajbir Singh, Rickey Dalotra, Sahil Sharma, Rajeev Saraf, Kapil Chib, Dr. Ramakant Khajuria and others.
Senior Congress leaders Mula Ram ( ex-minister) and District Congress Committee (DCC) president, Jammu Rural Hari Singh Chib paid rich tributes to the late Prime Minister of India Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary in separate function held in Raipur-Domana constituency in Jammu today.
Mula Ram and Hari Singh Chib recalled the unprecedented contributions of the late Prime Minister especially that of achieving a historic victory against Pakistan taking thousands of its soldiers into captivity and liberating East Pakistan that is now an independent country called Bangladesh. They also recalled her supreme sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the country and said that she enhanced the image of India in the community of nations by her farsightedness and unflawed stewardship and India emerged as a strong nation under her leadership.
At Dyala Chak in district Kathua, Congress activists led by former MLC Subhash Gupta paid floral tributes to Indira Gandhi. Gupta recalled the sacrifices and contributions of Late Gandhi for the sake of the country and the party. Under her leadership the country scaled great heights in every field. He referred to the grand success of Thursday’s programme of Azad at Dyala Chak which was jointly organised by former minister Dr Manohar Lal, GH Malik, Devinder Kumar Bindu besides he himself.
At Rajouri, former minister and DDC vice chairman Shabir Ahmed Khan and other DCC leaders paid floral tributes to Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary and recalled her services for the country and the Congress. Khan described her as iron lady and said that Indian Govt under her leadership made over 90,000 Pakistani soldiers to surrender in 1971 war.
