Cong justifies protests over internet ban, Toll Plazas

JAMMU, Dec 6: Questi-oning the continued blockade of internet facilities and imposition of unreasonable Toll taxes in Jammu region besides additional Toll tax at Lakhanpur and failure to concede the genuine demands of agitating lawyers and Sarpanchs and Panchs for clearing Rs 1000 crore MGNREGA liabilities, Congress has fully justified the different modes of protests being adopted by various quarters including certain political, social, students, youth, trade and transport bodies.
Condemning the detention of former minister Harsh Dev Singh and his other party colleagues by the police in Jammu today and terming it as an undemocratic action, JKPCC chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma said that the Government of India and UT Administration in Jammu and Kashmir is continuously adopting indifferent and insensitive attitude towards the genuine demands from various sections of the society especially to lift the internet ban and roll back of Jazia type Toll tax in Jammu and other anti- people policies. The Government is suppressing all genuine voices of dissent which is totally anti-democratic approach, he said.
The Government tendency to neglect, ignore and reject any such demand least caring for the sufferings of people on various fronts like economics, trade, commerce, academic and social levels has forced different sections to lodge their peaceful protest and express resentment in different peaceful forms to make the Government to move on these issues, which is justified in the overall interests of general public, he said.
Lambasting the BJP for its criminal silence to the various burning issues of general public in Jammu region, he said unfortunately the local BJP leaders have become party to imposition of unreasonable taxes and other such anti-people decisions which they opposed tooth and nail while in opposition. They fail to convey and convince their party high command and Central Govt to address to the genuine demands of the people of Jammu being raised in peaceful democratic modes.
Urging the Centre Government and UT administration to be responsive to the needs and genuine demands of the different sections, the party has warned that any approach to ignore and reject any peaceful mode of highlighting these demands, would be counterproductive and further create anger amongst people. The Govt should lift ban on internet without further delay, roll back Toll Plazas and concede the genuine demands of different agitating sections in Jammu, the party hand out said.
