Cong celebrates Rahul’s elevation

JAMMU, Jan 20: The elevation of Rahul Gandhi (MP), as vice president of All India Congress Committee was celebrated by the PCC, PYC and other frontal organizations of the party across the State today.
In Jammu PCC office, the function in this connection was organized under the leadership of PCC vice president S Gurmukh Singh and attended among others by Th Hari Singh (vice president), former Minister Mula Ram, Ravinder Sharma (MLC), Vinod Sharma, Mehraj-ud-Din Zargar –general secretaries, Ch Bashir Naz, Kuldip Verma, Shivdev Singh, Manmohan Singh, Pardeep Parihar, Lalita Sharma, S R Sudhir, Padmini Langeh and others. Sweets were distributed among the party activists on the occasion amidst beating of drums and firing of crackers. The speakers welcomed the decision of top leadership of the party and said that Rahul would infuse new spirit in the party and galvanize all over and new direction would be given ahead of 2014 elections.
Prominent among others present included K K Pangotra, Hari Singh Chib, Ashwani Puri, Ravi Singh Slathia, Narinder Gupta, Neeraj Gupta, Thomas Khokhar, Gurdarshan Singh, Hussain Baksh, Abid Kashmiri, Pawan Sharma and Prabha Slathia.
At party office in Srinagar, the function was presided over by Mohd Anwar Bhat, PCC general secretary. Minister incharge R&B Abdul Majid Wani, Amreeb Badr, Master Maqbool and others attended. The Congress leaders distributed sweets amidst beating of drums and raising slogans in favour of Rahul Gandhi and AICC president Sonia Gandhi. The speakers hailed the decision of the party high command for elevating Rahul at number two position in the party. They said entire rank and file of the Pradesh Congress extends whole hearted support to Rahul Gandhi.
Pradesh Youth Congress also organized a celebration function near Press Club here under the leadership of PYC vice president Pranab Shagotra. The youth activists of the party fired crackers and danced on the rythem of drum beats. They also distributed sweets among the party workers and other people witnessing the occasion. Dr Abdul Rashid Choudhary, Abid Bhat, Nasir Mir, Vijay Magotra, Waseem Kohli and Ajaz Choudhary were also present. They lauded the decision of party high command to elevate Rahul Gandhi. They also raised slogans in favour of Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi.
Meanwhile, Congress Seva Dal led by Balwinder Singh Sambyal also celebrated the occasion in a function held at Gandhinagar here today. Many activists of the Seva Dal were present. They distributed sweets and danced on drum beats. Doda-Bhaderwah units of Seva Dal under the leadership of Surinder Singh Manhas also celebrated the occasion and hailed CWC decision. District Youth Congress Udhampur unit organized yet another function to mark the occasion. It was held under the leadership of Sumeet Magotra. Several other party functionaries were present on the occasion.
Former PYC vice-president Ajay Tony also celebrated the elevation of Rahul Gandhi in a function held at Channi Himmat.
