Compensate victims of border firing : Tara Chand

JAMMU, July 16: Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior Congress leader Tara Chand today demanded compensation for the victims of border firing on the pattern of victims of militancy besides Government jobs to at least a family member of the deceased persons under SRO-43.
While addressing public meetings during tour of affected villages near border including Bhalwal Bharath, N S Pura, Pargwal, Garkhal, Bhalwal and Moolah today, Tara Chand also demanded that five kms area from International Border should also be declared as Rural Backward Area as approved by the previous Government through a Cabinet decision.
The Congress leader further said that during previous Coalition Government, a Cabinet decision was taken where in it was recommended to the Central Government to declare five kms area from International Border under RBA so that the poor population living near border areas could get a little sigh of relief, which would help their wards to make progressive future.
During his tour, the former DyCM also visited house of the deceased Poli Devi, resident of Bhalwal Bharath, who got killed during the border firing by the Pakistani Rangers yesterday. He extended his condolences to the bereaved family members.
While praying for peace to the departed soul, senior Congress leader demanded a Government job for the next of kin of the deceased under SRO-43.
He said the hapless villagers are being targeted as sitting ducks by Pakistani Rangers. He also demanded that a sum of Rs 5 lakh be paid to the bereaved family on the pattern of those who lost their lives in militancy related incidents.
Besides cease-fire violation, opening fire on civilian areas is a pointed fact that Pakistan is hell bent to unleash a reign of terror in border villages. He appealed the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led NDA Government to fulfill the commitment made to the general public during elections and ensure Pakistan never dares to target innocent civilians.
Later, Tara Chand also visited GMC Hospital and inquired from the doctors about the well being of the persons injured in border firing.
