KATHUA, Sept 17: Col (retd) Mahan Singh, Chairman District Development Council (DDC) Kathua accompanied by PWD staff and PRI representatives including Rajinder Singh, Sarpanch Kaghrore, Rajni Devi Ward Member, Capt (retd) Prem Singh, Amar Singh, SI (retd) Roop Singh and others visited village Jait in Gagrod Panchayat in Basohli today.
The visit was aimed at building consensus among the people and the department concerned for acquiring land for the construction of upcoming road in the village under the NABARD Project besides taking stock of the problems faced by the people of the said village.
On reaching the village the people welcomed the DDC Chairman along with the team after which a meeting was held to resolve the issue of road alignment which some of the residents of the area had earlier objected to. A detailed deliberation and discussion with the concerned residents was held during the meeting after which the team led by Col Mahan Singh visited the site of alignment. This was followed by another meeting held in a cordial manner in which the disputing parties arrived at an amicable settlement thereby giving a green signal to the execution of the road project especially the alignment.
The amicable settlement after DDC Chairman, Col Mahan Singh’s mediation has cleared the decks for executing the work on this three km long road project. It is pertinent to mention here that about Rs. five crore is in advance stage of sanction and more than 200 families living in Jait and Kharmait villages of Kaghrore and Pretha Panchayats, and the surrounding areas will be benefited with the execution of this long awaited project.
Meanwhile, the DDC Chairman also conducted interaction with the villagers and listened to their problems and woes quite patiently. He told the villagers that the Government stands fully committed to the welfare of the common people especially those living in the far flung and remote areas. He assured them that funds are no constraint in development of the area and that he would get all their issues addressed by taking up with the concerned authorities at the earliest.
