JAMMU, July 20: Colonel Anshu Jamwal from Jammu and Kashmir became the first woman army officer to command an operational Air Defence regiment of the Indian Army.
Col Anshu Jamwal Graduated from GCW Gandhinagar Jammu.

A resident of village Rahya in Jammu, Col Anshu Jamwal was commissioned from Officers Training Academy Chennai on 18 March 2006.
She worked as Instructor in OTA Chennai and AD College.
The Army officer has also served with UN peacekeeping force as Miliatry observer in MONUSCO.
On return to India, she was posted at army headquarters and now has been given responsibility to command an operational Air Defence regiment of India Army.
“We are happy that our daughter will command an air defence regiment and she has became the first woman officer to do so,” Col Anshu Jamwal’s father Shri Bir Singh Jamwal said.
He said that they were present on the occasion when her daughter took over the command of the unit.
Bir Singh Jamwal said that his daughter always wanted to do something different while the family was insisting her to pursue a career in academics.
“Initially we wanted her to became a teacher but she wanted to do something different. I decided to support her. We would together run at Gandhi Memorial Degree College Jammu and I would keep a count of the runs she would make around the college,” he added.
Singh said that he feels proud in mentioning that her daughter was worked for the country in difficult areas including Leh.
