JAMMU, Apr 20: Department of Zoology/Institute of Human Genetics, University of Jammu and Department of Pediatrics, SMGS, Hospital, Jammu, under “Mission Program on Pediatrics Rare Genetic Disorders” by DBT, Govt of India, in collaboration with MedGenome Labs, Bangaluru, India, organized a CME on Genetic Diagnosis of Postnatal and Rare Genetic Disorders, today at SMGS Hospital, Jammu.
Dr Ghanshyam Saini, Professor & HoD Pediatrics, GMC Jammu, who was the Organizing Chairperson of this event, shared that globally, at least 7.6 million children are born annually with severe genetic or congenital malformations while 90 percent of these are born in mid and low income countries. The genetic and congenital disorder is the second most common cause of infant and childhood mortality and occurs with a prevalence of 25-60 per 1000 births, he added.
Principal & Dean Govt Medical College, Jammu, Dr Ashutosh Gupta was the chief guest of this CME. He appreciated the organizers of this CME to take this important issue on board and organizing this knowledgeable session which shall benefit the community and masses.
The guest faculty for this CME, Dr Charu Bahl from MedGenome Labs, Bangaluru, delivered a lecture on “recent advances in Post natal genetics and Rare diseases”.
Dr Jyotdeep Kour Raina from GGM Science College Jammu delivered a lecture on “From Genes to Health: An Introduction to Genetic Counseling and Testing”.
Dr Sanjeev Kumar Digra, Prof Pediatrics; Dr Arshad Bhat, Consultant Radiology, SMGS Hospital; Dr Parvinder Kumar, Assistant Professor; Dr Rakesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Zoology Department; Dr Mohd Younis from University of Jammu, were amongst the organizing team of this CME.
The other prominent persons who attended the CME included Dr Parmod Kalsotra, HoD ENT; Dr Dev Raj Dogra, HoD Dermatology; Dr Reema Khajuria, HoD Gynae & Obst; Dr Dara Singh, Medical Superintendent; Dr Rakesh Kumar Sharma, Dy Medical Superintendent, SMGS, Hospital and senior faculty of Department of Pediatrics, Professor: Dr Ashu Jamwal, Dr Sunil Dutt Sharma; Associate Professor: Dr Anuj Bhatti, Dr Ravi Parihar, Dr Koushal Kumar. Proceeding of the CME was conducted by Dr Deepshikha, Jr Resident Pediatrics.
