CME on COVID-19 vaccine held in GMC Jammu

JAMMU, Jan 12: A continuing medical education (CME) programme on COVID-19 vaccine implementation was held at Government Medical College (GMC), Jammu.
Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal and Dean, GMC Jammu, was the chief guest of the programme. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shashi said that the GMC Jammu is all set for implementation of COVID-19 vaccination programme of Government of India and all measures have been taken at ground level.
“The institution has already organized dry run for COVID vaccination twice till date. For smooth conduct of the programme, various committees have been formed including adverse effects following immunization (AEFI) management committee and detailed SOPs have been made,” she added.
The GMC Principal said that all concerned have been imparted basic trainings for the effective implementation of the vaccination programme. She said there is robust data in favour of efficacy and safety of the vaccine and healthcare workers as well as frontline workers have been given priority for receiving the vaccine.
She maintained that the vaccine will prove to be very important in breaking the chain of transmission and reduce morbidity and mortality associated with COVID-19.
Dr Vishal Tandon, Professor Pharmacology, said that Covishield has shown 94 % sero-conversion and 71.2 % effectiveness in the phase 3 clinical trial whereas Covaxin has 96 % sero-conversion and nearly 76 % effectiveness. He said the vaccine is safer as compared to other routine vaccines.
Dr Rajiv Gupta, Professor and Head PSM, answered all the frequently asked questions in relation to COVID-19 vaccine while as Dr Priyanka from Department of Microbiology, shared the details about development and status of various vaccines.
The CME was attended by all HoDs, members of Hospital Administration, faculty members, residents, demonstrators, postgraduates, nurses, paramedics and staff concerned with COVID-19 vaccination programme.
