Cluster Universities in Jammu, Srinagar to have ten Schools of Faculties

JAMMU, May 20: Hundreds of  more students in Jammu and Kashmir will be able to pursue  various  Post Graduation, Under Graduate and Diploma courses in different faculties and subjects  through regular mode as the Union Ministry of  Human Resources Development is establishing two  Cluster Universities  in the State.
Both in Jammu and Srinagar, one each  Cluster University is being established under Rashtriya Ucchtar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), for which the process of building   infrastructure  has been set into motion, official sources informed the Excelsior.
The each Cluster University will comprise of  five existing Government colleges in the capital cities where Schools of  different faculties are to  be established, sources added.
The Cluster University in Jammu will comprise  GGM Science College, Government MAM College, SPMR College of Commerce, Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar and Government College of Education, Canal Road. Similarly, the proposed Cluster University in Srinagar will comprise of Amar Singh College, SP College, Women College MA Road, GDC Bemina  and the College of Education, Srinagar.
The Union Ministry of Human Resources Development has sanctioned Rs 55 crores for each university, which will formally come into existence after the enactment of legislation by amending Jammu and Kashmir Universities Act.
According to the sources, the each Cluster University will have  one nucleus college with an Administration Block, Central Library and an auditorium.  For the Cluster University Jammu, GGM Science College will act as the nucleus  college while for the Cluster University Srinagar, SP College Srinagar is the nucleus college, sources elaborated.
At the Cluster University Jammu, School of Sciences will be made functional at GGM Science College,  School of Humanities and Arts at MAM College, School of Social Sciences at SPMR College, School of Technologies at  GDC Gandhi Nagar and School of Teaching Education at Government B Ed College Canal Road.
Similarly at the Cluster University Srinagar, School of Sciences will be opened in GDC Bemina, School of Teaching Education in Government College of Education Srinagar, School of Social Sciences in SP College Srinagar, School of Engineering and Technology in Women College MA Road and School of Humanities & Liberal Art in Amar Singh College, sources informed.
A number of courses, including Post Graduation, Under Graduation and Diploma, in different subjects and streams will be introduced in these Schools thus benefiting hundreds of students to pursue their higher education in regular mode.
Pertinent to mention that a large number of  students in Jammu and Kashmir fail to get admission in the six State and two Central State universities here  because of limited seats and tough competition  for the same.  Further, a number of required courses are also not introduced in these universities because of inadequate infrastructure and faculty.
The process of  establishing infrastructure  for the proposed universities has also been set into motion and the job work has been allotted for construction of  different blocks at GGM Science College as well as  GDC Gandhi Nagar Jammu.
Besides, the Administration block, Central Library and an auditorium in the nucleus colleges, each college  under the Cluster Universities, will have a Classroom block and canteen.
