Srinagar, Aug 5: A civilian was killed and a soldier was injured in an encounter at Redwani area of Kulgam district today.
An official said a joint team of Army, Police and CRPF after receiving information about the presence of militants launched a search operation in Redwani area of Kulgam today.
He said that as the joint team of security forces intensified searches towards the suspected spot, the hiding militants fired upon the party, which was retaliated, thus triggering an encounter.

He said that during the exchange of fire, one civilian and an Army man were injured, who have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
He further added that after initial exchange of fire, no fresh contact was established with militants; however, the searches are going on in the area.
The official said that the civilian Manzoor Ahmad Lone son of Abdullah Lone of Redwani succumbed this evening. He said that Kiran Singh of 1-RR of Army who was injured in the encounter is being treated at Srinagar Base hospital.
