JAMMU, Nov 15: The birthday of first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru known as ‘Children’s Day’ and birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev (Gurpurab) were celebrated with zeal and fervour.
GD Goenka Public School celebrated Children’s Day on the theme ‘Love’, in which students from class VI to XII took part. On the occasion, teachers entertained the students with their spectacular and charming performance. The function began with a special thought by Rita Jain, HoD English Department, followed by an introductory song by Sunil, the vocalist teacher. The song ‘Maa’ emoted the feelings of all in a beautiful, melodious way. The next presentation was a group song by the Academic and Music Faculty. The most awaited programme was the Dance Performance titled ‘Kal, Aaj Aur Kal’, choreographed by the Dance Department under the supervision of Shalini Jaiswal, HoD, Music and Dance Department. It was a welcome break for the students to watch the new ‘Avataar’ of their teachers who danced to a popular Bollywood number. The teachers mimicked the popular yesteryears super-stars. There were a few individual performances by Jacob and Kuldeep which added more vibrancy and zest to the whole event. The icing on the cake was the special song sung by the Maestro himself, the Principal Rajesh Rathore.
Children’s Day was celebrated in the premises of AOC Higher Secondary School, Subash Nagar Udhampur. The celebration started with morning assembly where many teachers came dressed like school students and conducted the assembly. After which fancy dress competition was organised for classes Nursery to 2nd. Kanika of Nursery, Adhyan of LKG, Rushika of UKG, Divyansh of 1st and Kritika of 2nd class bagged the Best Dressed for the Day. Various cultural items including dance, song and skit were presented by students of classes 4th to 10th where the skit by Class 6th on theme ‘Desi vs Modern Teacher’ won hearts of the crowd. Certain games were also organized to entertain the students. Poonam and Shefali won the Best Dressed Teacher-Student Award. While presenting vote of thanks, Principal mentioned that “No matter how old you grow, keep the child in you alive forever”.
Gurpurab popularly known as Guru Nanak jayanti was celebrated in KC International School. On the occasion of Gurpurab, a special assembly started with a floral tribute to Guru Nanak Dev by Principal, Vice-Principal, Co-ordinators and all the house masters. A special talk was presented by students updating everyone with the significance of the holy day. On the occasion, girls from Topaz House also chanted the shabad “Ek Onkar Satnam”.
KV No 1, Udhampur celebrated Children’s Day and Gurpurab with pomp and show. The programme started by paying tributes to Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and Guru Nanak Dev by Principal Rajesh Pandey and Vice Principal Anuj Kumar. Class X-E students presented a special item on life sketch of Guru Nanak Dev. Sukhwinder Bali, TGT, Social Science out forth her views on Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and his ideologies. She also recited a poem in his remembrance. A group of students and teachers sang patriotic songs under the guidance of Radha, Music Teacher. The programme was coordinated by Sanjay Kumar, PGT Hindi and Jyotsna Sirohi, TGT English along with Librarian Raman Kumar.
The birthday of Pt Nehru was celebrated as Children’s Day in the premises of Dewan Devi Higher Secondary School, Rajpura. The students presented sizzling and spell bound cultural programme.
Management and staff members of the school were also present on the occasion.
To commemorate Children’s Day, Phoenix Classes organised Marathon from Phoenix Classes centre at Trikuta Nagar to Manda Zoo. The participants covered a distance of 9.5 kilometers.
In the event, 120 students and Phoenix staff took part. Some parents of Phoenix students also participated in Marathon. Harris Showket was declared winner of Marathon, while Alok Yadav and Divyansh Sharma stood second and third respectively. Amongst girls, Kashish Sharma stood first, while second position was bagged by Muskaan Mahajan and Samreen Kour.
