Chhari-Mubarak taken to Sharika Bhawani temple

SRINAGAR :  The Chhari-Mubarak, holy silver mace of Lord Shiva, was today taken to Sharika Bhawani temple in the downtown city, where Puja was held for the peace in the Kashmir valley.
Amid chanting of ‘Bam Bam Bholay’ and vedic mantras, the holy mace was taken out from its abode Dashnami Akhara at Budshah Chowk near here at 0630 hrs by Mahant Deepender Giri, custodian of the Charri, who was joined by a large number of devotees, including sadhus who had come from different parts of the country.
The holy mace was taken to Shankaracharya temple, where puja was held on the occasion of Amavasya yesterday.
The holy mace later returned to to its abode Dashnami   Akhara.
Mahant Giri told UNI that the Chhari-Mubarak will be taken to Sharika Bhawani Temple on the hill of Kohi-e-Maran, where the shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Mehboobul- Aalam and Gurdwara Chatipadshahi.
After puja on the occasion of ‘Pratipada’, the Holy Mace will again return to Dashnami Akhara.
He said it was an age old traditional to take the Chhari to different shrines before starting final journey towards the Holy cave.
“We prayed for peace in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Kashmir valley,” he said and appreciated locals for extending cooperation to yatris.
On August 9, Chhari Sthapana and Dhwajardhan will be held in  Dashnmi Akhara, which houses the Holy Mace.
On the occasion of Nagpanchami, which falls on  August 11, Chhari Pujan will be held at Dashnami Akhara  at 1700 hrs.
On August 16, on the occasion of Dashmi, the Chhari will start journey from Dashnami Akhara to Holy Caveh shrine in south Kashmir, where the final darshan will be held on August 21 on the occasion of Sharavan-Purnima,  Rakshabandan.
