Central varsity status to SKUAST-J demanded

JAMMU, May 9: A delegation of SKUAST-Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ), led by its president Dr Vikas Sharma, called on Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh and submitted a memorandum regarding upgradation of SKUAST-Jammu to Central Agricultural University of Jammu.
The Dy CM was apprised that in the Northern India there was not even a single Central Agricultural University so far and Jammu region was the most suitable place for the establishment of the same. Unlike Kashmir and  Ladakh, Jammu is bestowed upon with four agro climatic zones by nature, which are not available in any other area of the country, he explained and added that  Central Agricultural University Status for SKUAST-Jammu would  help in increasing the staff / research stations in the far flung / remote areas and availability of increased financial assistance directly from the Central Government will further help to take the latest technology to the door steps of farmers.
The SKUAST-TAJ also demanded opening of New Faculties/Divisions in the University, timely release of funds from the State Government for payment of salaries and flood relief package for the university.
After giving a patient hearing to SKUAST-J teachers, Dr  Nirmal Singh said that steps would  be taken up very soon to oblige Jammuites by addressing their genuine demand for upgradation of State Agriculture University. Further, he assured full support to SKUAST-Jammu from present State Government.
The deputation comprised of Dr Vivek M  Arya, Dr P K Rai, Dr Devinder Sharma, Dr SP Singh and Dr Poonam Parihaar.
