CEC Leh, GOC 14 Corps resolve to further strengthen Army-civil relations

LEH, Dec 5: An introductory meeting of LAHDC, Leh with the top Army officers of 14 Corps Leh was held for the first time after Ladakh becomes Union Territory.
The meeting was co-chaired by Chairman/ CEC, LAHDC, Leh Gyal P Wangyal and Lt General Harinder Singh, GOC 14 Corps, at Council Secretariat here yesterday evening.
The Deputy Chairman Tsering Sandup, Executive Counicllor for Agriculture Phuntsog Stanzin, Executive Councillor for Education Konchok Stanzin, Executive Councillor for Minorities Mumtaz Hussain, Councillors of LAHDC, Leh and senior Army officers of 14 Cops Leh attended the meeting.
CEC Wangyal, welcoming the GOC 14 Corps Leh Lt General Harinder Singh at Council Secretariat, highlighted the exemplary cordial relationship between the India Armed forces and the civil population since independence and the support of Ladakhi people to the Armed forces in situation of wars and peace.
Briefing about the transaction phase of UT Ladakh, Wangyal said that the role of Army in progress of Ladakh always remained crucial and will remain vital.
To further strengthen and consolidate the existing cordial relation and cooperation between civil and Army, Wangyal stressed on convening Civil Military liaison conference in coming months. .
Lt General Harinder Singh said that Ladakh after UT is on the cusp of change with lots of opportunities coupled with challenges and the leadership and people of Ladakh should use their wisdom responsibly in choosing right opportunities. He said that that dealing with peculiar environment and terrain of Ladakh, generating capacity, managing resources and retaining and maintaining societal balance of Ladakh are going to be key factor in driving the engine of Ladakh towards sustainable development and progress.
Talking about the contribution of Army in economy of Ladakh as a largest consumer and job providers, GOC Singh gave assurance to extend fullest support from the Army to the Hill Council and civilians and stressed on developing more mutual understanding and close relationship between Army and civilians, especially in border areas. GOC assured that the conduct of 14 Corps will always remain people friendly in Ladakh.
Issues like supply of local agro products to Army, including milk, sharing of Army OFC to strengthen mobile network in borders area and menace of dog issues etc were discussed at length in the meeting.
