LEH, May 12: Chief Executive Councilor, LAHDC, Leh Dorjey Motup today inaugurated 2-day Kushok Bakula Rinpochey Centenary film festival at Nagarjuna Auditorium of Central Institute of Buddhist Studies, Choglamsar here.
Speaking on the occasion, the CEC said that we are committed to Bakula Rinpochey’s vision of making Ladakh developed and prosperous by means of education.
He appreciated Ladakh Media and Cultural Society for organising the film festival commemorating the birth centenary of Kushok Bakula Rinpoche, who also served as India’s ambassador to Mongolia.
“Films especially made by local filmmakers hold great relevance and importance in highlighting various social issues and honouring legends like Rinpochey,” he said, adding films are one of the best medium to educate and spread awareness among masses.
The CEC said the celebration of the birth centenary of the remarkable man reminds us to follow the path of development shown by him.
Later, a film titled “Wangmo” directed by Tsetan Angchuk was screened during the inaugural session. The film is based on the concept of ‘Beti Bachao, Beti Padao’ and highlighted the importance of educating girl child. In the afternoon session, films like Kesar, Donglen and Butsa Nayi Sodhay were also screened as part of the two-day film festival.
Executive Councilor (Agriculture) Tsering Wangdus, Executive Councilor (Health) Gyal P Wangyal, Councilors, executive members of KG Bakula Centenary Committee, eminent scholars, academicians and theatre personalities were also present on the occasion.
