CBI affidavit in Coalgate may create fresh trouble for UPA Govt

NEW DELHI, May 5:
There may be further trouble for the UPA government as the Central Bureau of Investigation is likely to tell the Supreme Court tomorrow in its fresh affidavit that the status report in Coalgate scam was seen and changed by Union Law Minister Ashwani Kumar and Attorney General G E Vahanvati.
According to sources, CBI director Ranjit Sinha in his fresh affidavit is also going to take a stand that police manual is silent on the issue of procedure for conducting an investigation and is also silent on the vital issue whether draft status report should be shared with the government executive or not.
A bench headed by Justice R M Lodha will consider the fresh affidavit on May 8.
On the last date of hearing, the apex court had come down heavily both on the goverment and CBI and observed “it is a massive breach of trust which has shaken our foundation.” (UNI)
