JAMMU, Feb 18: Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has snapped the landline communication link of large number of Police Stations in Jammu district due to failure of the Police Department to clear the dues.
Official sources told EXCELSIOR that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has disconnected telephone lines of the maximum Police Stations in Jammu district and this has created manifold problems not only for the police officials but for the common masses also.
Telephones in Police Stations like RS Pura, Nowabad, Kanachack, Gharota, Janipur, Bakshi Nagar, Akhnoor, Jhajjar Kotli, Pir Mitha, Channi Himmat, Bishnah, Domana and Gandhi Nagar are non-functional due to non-payment of bills, sources said.
When contacted GM BSNL, Jammu, Gautam Lal said that due to pending dues, the landlines of the Police Stations have been disconnected. “If we get the pending dues, we will restore the landlines”, he added.
SSP Jammu Uttam Chand also confirmed that landline communication of numerous Police Stations has been snapped by the BSNL due to non-payment of bills. “The data vis-à-vis usage and billing amounts is being collected from the SHOs of such Police Stations and thereafter we will clear the dues so that this vital communication link is restored in shortest possible time”, he added.
The snapping of landline communication link of various Police Stations is not only creating problems for the police personnel but also for the common masses. In case of providing or seeking information people have been left with no other option but to call on officer’s cell phone number. But that is not the convenient way as sometimes the officers did not pick up calls from unknown numbers.
It is pertinent to mention here that non-functional landlines can create problems in maintenance of law and order. Disconnections have also hampered normal activities of the police stations and officers are now communicating primarily through their personal mobile phones.
