BRGA warns stir if Govt fails to redress farmers’demands

JAMMU, Nov 1: Basmati Rice Grower’s Association (BRGA) warned to launch agitation if the Government failed to redress the demands of the farming community residing in border areas.
Addressing a press conference, Dev Raj, president, BRGA, highlighted the plights of the people residing in border areas, who are worst sufferers due to unprovoked firing by the Pakistani rangers.
He said that there is dire need of bunkers by the defence force for the people residing near border and also demanded declaration of 2 kilometers areas along the border as danger zone.
He criticized the Central and the State Governments for making false promises and added that no body is taking care of the farming community who are totally dependent on cultivation.
He demanded employment to one member of a family residing in the danger zone of border in defence of Government Department, 25 per cent grace marks to the students as their education has been badly affected due to continue firing from across the border, insurance risk cover amounting to Rs 10 lakh for any casualty and Rs 5 lakh for injuries, free of cost fertilizer and seeds to the farming community as they are not in a position to purchase the same due to the rising tensions on the border due to unprovoked firing.
He also demanded full concession in electricity, revenue mallia, loan installment for tractor obtained from banks residing in border areas.
