SAMBA, Feb 17: Border Kissan Union (BKU) Ramgarh, Samba representatives led by its president, Mohan Singh Bhatti submitted a memorandum to the Lt. Governor, Manoj Sinha through district administration for redressal of their demands.
The memorandum expressed concern over reservation of newly carved out Ramgarh seat. It said though the draft role has not came in public domain but the general public of area is concerned and dissatisfied with the proposed areas linked with the Ramgarh seat. The memorandum further said it is obligation of Delimitation Commission that the uniformity of area, population and continuity shall not be ignored while creating new Assembly segments. But contrary to it, the area for Ramgarh border constituency obviously has been fitted with cut pieces.
The area of the Rajpura and other parts of Samba district added in Ramgarh stood already reserved as part of Samba Assembly segment for more than two decades in addition to the Ramgarh area which also remained reserved for two decades till 1996. So again reserving the newly created Ramgarh seat, the general public feels deprived of their Constitutional rights. The memorandum said in contrary to that Vijaypur seat has never been reserved.
It said that the entire border from Kathua to Chhamb is dominated by PoJK refugees who have again met injustice by depriving them of their right.
It appealed the Delimitation Commission to reconsider their proposal and declare Ramgarh Border constituency as general by including Pangdaur and Glard Panchyats in it and excluding Diani and Katli Panchayats for Samba constituency.
The Union showed concern over abolishing of Suchetgarh Border seat and said this act of Delimitation Commission is highly condemnable and it requested the authorities to reconsider and retain the Suchetgarh constituency without fail.
It demanded Rs 25 lakh compensation for displaced families in accordance with the proposal submitted by the then J&K Government to Centre in October 2014.
It demanded release of full compensation for the crops damaged due to hailstorm and redressal of all those problems projected before the team of Central ministers who visited in the border areas last year.
The others who participated in meeting included Manjit Singh Ex-Minister, Prempal Choudhary general secretary, Arjan Singh, Ravinder Choudhary, Gurmail Singh, Avtar Singh, Sarpanch Jasbir Singh, Sarpanch Jagdish Bhatti, Sarpanch Kali Dass, Bachan Choudhary, Balbir Singh, Gurbaksh Singh etc.
