A vehicle of Jammu and Kashmir Police was today used to distribute food among the supporters of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) during a poll rally in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, prompting the police to withdraw the vehicle and attach the driver.
The white-colour gypsy of police in the security escort of BJP candidate for Anantnag Parliamentary constituency, Sofi Yusuf, was parked at the venue of the rally in Khanabal which was addressed by the BJP general secretary Ram Madhav.
The vehicle was packed with food packets and they were being distributed among the BJP workers who had come to attend the rally.
A police spokesman said that vehicle was deployed with protected person. “Today, a video surfaced on social media wherein one police vehicle was being seen being utilised for distribution of food items in a political party rally in Anantnag. The vehicle in question was deployed for ferrying escort personnel of a protected person,” said a police spokesman.
He added that the vehicle has been withdrawn, driver attached and inquiry ordered. “The vehicle has been withdrawn from protected person and driver of the vehicle has been attached. Enquiry into the matter has been ordered under rules,” he said.
