NEW DELHI, May 11: Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, who has been the Minister In-Charge of North Eastern States for the last five years, said that in the ongoing Lok Sabha election, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will get highest tally from the North Eastern States, thus turning a new leaf and opening a new chapter in the history of electoral politics of Northeast India.
“This tally will get further added on by the seats to be won by BJP allies under NEDA (North East Democratic Alliance),” he said while sharing his assessment of the voting trends with media persons, here today.
Dr Jitendra Singh recalled that in 2014 Lok Sabha election, BJP had won only 8 out of 25 seats in the North Eastern States, which included seven from Assam and one from Arunachal Pradesh. “This time, however, the jinx will break and BJP will also record decisive victory from States like Meghalaya, Tripura and Manipur from where last time we did not get a single seat,” he predicted.
The contribution of the North Eastern States to the overall BJP tally in the Lok Sabha, Dr Jitendra Singh said, will not only mark a definite departure from the past trends, but would also make the eight North Eastern States of India a major player in India’s national politics.
Crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the incredible upsurge of BJP in Northeast, Dr Jitendra Singh said, a continued, micro-level focus of the Modi Government on the North Eastern region, coupled with successful restructuring of organization by national president Amit Shah have turned the tables in favour of BJP.
As far as development is concerned, under the Modi Government, Dr Jitendra Singh said, there is for example a network of roads across the region and a double-gauge rail track being laid even in the States which had never seen a train before.
The results on 23rd May, Dr Jitendra Singh said, will prove that the people of the North Eastern region have, under the Modi Government, totally mingled with the rest of India.
