SRINAGAR, Dec 1: Union Minister Dr. Jitendra Singh said today that BJP is the only political party which is publicly campaigning in the Kashmir valley while the Gupkar parties have gone into hiding.
During the District Development Council (DDC) election campaign as well as a series of meetings with different local organisations and BJP office bearers, Dr. Jitendra Singh, who was responding to queries of media, said that BJP candidates and party workers are visibly seen holding impressive election meetings in every nook and corner of the Kashmir valley and covering virtually every Panchayat in the region, whereas not a single public meeting is seen being conducted by the Gupkar parties. While the National Conference President and Vice President have both gone into self-quarantine for the last one month, he said, the PDP President is only issuing statements through video and the Congress is not able to get candidates to contest election on its party symbol.
Reacting sharply to Mehbooba Mufti’s charge that her party candidates in Kashmir were being prevented from campaigning by the security forces, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, such statements are being issued only to cover up their own unpreparedness and incapacity for electioneering while BJP is a 24x7x365 days party, ever-ready to contest any election at any time. As far the security restrictions are concerned, he said, these are equally applicable to the BJP candidates as well and if the PDP President feels that any of her party candidates is being unduly restricted by security forces, then why does she not approach the Election Commission instead giving bytes to TV channels.
This is for the first time in many years, said Dr. Jitendra Singh that every section of society, including women and men as well as old and young, have come out enthusiastically to choose their local body representatives. At the same time, there is not a single boycott call or Hartal call or curfew, which reflects people’s aspiration for local body representatives which they had been denied for several decades.
Responding to Gupkar leaders’ claim that their candidates will win on the strength of ‘silent’ voters, Dr. Jitendra Singh said, BJP will get the support of both the vocal voters as well as the silent voters and follow the Mantra of “Vocal for Local”.
