BJP Corporator arrested for driving stolen vehicle

UDHAMPUR, Feb 21: A BJP Corporator from Srinagar was arrested today for driving a stolen vehicle, here at Udhampur.
According to Police sources, the said Corporator, namely Nazir Ahmad Gilkar was on his way to Srinagar along with two Personal Security Officers in a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) when he was stopped by the Traffic police team, led by Dy SP Himmat Singh for checking of documents at Jakhani naka point.
During verification of the SUV number HR07AC-2642 through e-challaning machine, it was found that the said vehicle (Mahindra Scorpio) was stolen one and an FIR in this connection had already been registered at Sarita Vihar, South East Delhi.
The vehicle was found registered in the name of Manpreet Kour, wife of Gurvinder Singh of Bahadurpur, District Jhajjar, in Haryana. The Chassis and the registration number of the vehicle were also not matching.
Acting swiftly, the Traffic Police team immediately brought the matter into the notice of Udhampur Police Station where an FIR was registered in this regard and the BJP Corporator was formally arrested.
Nazir Ahmad Gilkar, son of Abdul Majeed Gilkar, resident of Bagwanpora, Barbar Shah, is Corporator of Ward number 35, Basant Bagh of Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
Case FIR number 73, under section 420, 411 has been registered against him at Udhampur Police Station and further investigations into the matter are going on.
