Bill for welfare of parents, senior citizens introduced

SRINAGAR, Aug 29: A Bill regarding maintenance, welfare of parents and senior citizens was today introduced in the Legislative Assembly.
Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Mir Saifullah, on behalf of the Minister for Social Welfare Minister, introduced a Bill to provide for more effective provisions for the maintenance and welfare of parents and senior citizens as guaranteed and recognised under the Constitution.
The aim and objective of the Bill is to provide safety and security to the parents and senior citizens who are ignored or dumped by their kith and kin or near and dear ones. There are large numbers of senior citizens in the State who are unable to take care of themselves and have no sufficient means for leading a decent and happy life.
The Bill aims to help these senior citizens can claim the maintenance from their heirs but majority don’t claim due to ignorance.
The State Government, for the purpose, should open Senior Citizen Homes, give financial assistance, medical aid and other facilities to the poor and needy senior citizens, the Bill said.
The Bill provides to establish old age homes in every district starting from Srinagar and Jammu.
The Planning and Development Department and Finance Department have agreed to provide non-recurring and recurring expenditure for providing assistance to these senior citizens.
The Assembly also passed two Bills which were moved for consideration and passing in the House.
A Bill to amend the Jammu and Kashmir Civil Services (Special Provisions) Act, 2010 was moved by the Minister for Finance and Ladakh Affaiers Abdul Rahim Rather for consideration and passing. The Bill was passed unanimously without any amendment.
Another Bill to amend the Jammu and Kashmir State Legislature Members Pension Act, 1984 was moved by Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs Mir Saifullah for consideration and passing. The Bill was also passed.
