JAMMU, Jan 11: Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla today inaugurated 3-day Bahu-cum-Lohri Festival at Jammu Development Authority Park at Trikuta Nagar, here this evening.
Director Tourism, Soujanya Sharma besides people of City of Temples in large numbers were present on the occasion.
The festival was organized by the J&K Tourism Department in collaboration with Railway Station Hotels and Lodges Association to showcase the cultural heritage of Jammu.
On the occasion, renowned artists of Jammu presented a colourful cultural items depicting Dogra culture which was highly applauded by the audience present at the venue.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Bhalla said that such events showcase the unique and rich cultural heritage of the State. He said that Government is promoting diverse tourism activities under which potential destinations are being developed across the State to promote eco, adventure and heritage tourism.
Extending greetings to the people on Lohri Festival and Makar Sankranti, the Minister said that the festivals educate the younger generation about their culture heritage, particularly Dogra culture.
Mr. Bhalla lauded the efforts of Tourism Department for diverting Shri Vaishno Devi Ji pilgrims to different tourist destinations for the promotion of tourism industry. He said work on artificial lake, cable car project at Bahu Fort, beautification of Mubarak Mandi Complex and expansion of the Jammu Airport is under process for attracting more tourists to Jammu division.
The Minister said that rail services to the holy town Katra would be started soon, adding that with the train coming to Katra the Yatris will have the added facilities for performing the pilgrimage to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi.
Earlier, the Director Tourism Soujanya Sharma highlighted the tourism activities and the importance of holding of 3-day special attractions of Bahu-cum- Lohri Festival. He said Department of Tourism has launched several programmes for promotion of tourism in the State.
